Eyewear displays for counters are display aids designed for display on the countertop of any cash register, reception desk, table or counter of an optical shop, eyewear boutiques, or pharmacy, and pop-up shop. The primary purpose of displays for counters is to display eyewear in countertop space, while also allowing customers to see the eyewear, select eyewear, and have staff assist. The most commonly used types of displays for counters are freestanding displays and rotating displays – each type of display has specific structural features and advantages that meet specific business needs.

Countertop eyeglass displays that rotate are created with a built-in rotating mechanism at the core of the display body which spins 360 degrees. This design emphasizes the ideals of “space utilization” and “customer convenience,” overcoming the issue of limited counter space by allowing the customer to see more products without having to move the display. These types of displays lend themselves well to an environment with a lot of product assortment, but limited space. Where counter space is limited but a range of glasses need to be presented, rotating displays can offer a good range in a small footprint. Lastly, in high customer flow environments, like optical stores, rotating displays reduce staff involvement.

Countertop eyeglass displays that stand freely are ones that have a stable base to support the display frame, thus relying on structural properties, they hold the frame vertically and do not provide rotation. Freestanding displays prioritize “focused presentation” and “structural stability”, making them ideal for highlighting key products or limited-edition eyeglasses. In relation to structural characteristics, there are mostly layered-style or rack-style structure. Freestanding displays are most common at or near cash registers for impulse buys, and are easy to clean and maintain with a simple cloth wipe. They are very applicable in busy retail settings.
